Low cost temperature sensors

Keywords: Temperature, Sensors

A new range of small, low cost temperature sensors on an 805-sized, surface-mount chip has been developed by Heraeus Sensor-Nite. Designed to provide high accuracy, long-term stability and near linear output over the temperature range 50°C to + 130°C, these sensors offer superior performance to traditional thermistors and semiconductor based devices (Plate 5).

Sensors are supplied in blister reels which are compatible with the latest automated assembly techniques. They are suitable for use in most temperature measurement or temperature compensation applications especially where space is at a premium or fast response times are needed.

Based on established thin-film platinum technology, sensors are available with nominal resistances of 100 or 1000 at 0°C and in two tolerance classes. Temperature coefficient is positive and complies with the DIN EN 60751 standard. Maximum drift over 1000 hours at 130°C is 0.06 per cent.

Heraeus has a world-wide reputation for quality temperature sensors. They invented and patented the first platinum resistance temperature detectors in 1908 and currently produce over twelve million sensors each year.
