Engineers now can use National Instruments LabWIEW embedded on compact industrial measurement I/O nodes to build real-time distributed monitoring and control systems. Using these nodes, powered by the new FieldPoint 2000 Family of network modules, engineers can create reliable, stand-alone measurement and control solutions.
With the powerful and easy-to-use LabVIEW graphical programming, engineers can create customised applications that they can download to a real-time operating system running on a dedicated processor in the FieldPoint 2000 Family of modules (Plate 8).
"We look forward to taking advantage of the new FieldPoint 2000 in our manufacturing process and test programs and to embedding it in our product lines," said Steve Axelrod, Director of Engineering, Sensor and Measurement Hardware, at Honeywell- Measurex. "We believe the FieldPoint 2000 could be useful for a variety of applications, including distributed control. Our experience has been that National Instruments delivers quality, integrated software and hardware with FieldPoint, making our development easier."

Systems based on the FieldPoint 2000 Family are easy to develop, deploy, and maintain because of software configurability and modular, networked hardware. Each of these intelligent nodes can act as an independent component in a networked system and still communicate with a host Windows computer. Engineers also can integrate the modules into existing systems via Ethernet, and connect to or communicate with RS-232 serial devices.
"LabView Real-Time and the FieldPoint 200 Family take the power and ease-of-use of a PC-based system and extend it to a networked system of intelligent nodes for measurement and control," said Dr. James Truchard, NI President, CEO, and Co-Founder. "These FieldPoint modules embody a convergence of major technology trends - from smaller, more embedded intelligent systems, to the growth of Ethernet on the factory flooor, to Web-enabled applications and the integration of manufacturing and test."
