Around the size of a sugar cube, the completely unique Series 10 laser sensor has been launched in a storm of interest by a leading manufacturer and supplier of precision sensing technology, Baumer electric Limited.

The most innovative laser sensor yet, the Series 10 opens up a wide field of possible applications that were previously restricted to fibre optic technology. To achieve this goal and build on the strengths of the hugely successful Series 10 optical version, Baumer electic has combined the latest diode technologies with high-density electronics. Introducing this new generation of miniaturised laser sensors with even higher performance, the company's technical manager, Nigel Allen comments:

"The introduction of the Series 10 means we've now completed a family of laser sensors in almost all housing sizes, designed to detect objects as they move into the beam to give unparalleled levels of accuracy.

"An effective replacement for bulkier fibre optic systems, particularly in high damage environments, it has a laser spot which offers excellent lateral repeat accuracy at its beam focal point at 40mm of less than 0.2mm. It offers high-speed response to maintain accuracy even at high production rates, and precision background suppression is possible by triangulation.

"It's also easy to set-up, thanks to the visible red spot, and has an adjustable sensing range of 20 to 100mm.

The Series 10 can be installed using an industry standard M8 connector. Diffuse and through beam options will be available later in 2001.
