Keyword: Measurement
A new system, MM710 PowderVision from NDC Infrared Engineering, allows direct online measurement of critical parameters in powders, flakes and granules in enclosed ducting or pneumatic conveying systems (Plate 7). For the first time, the considerable process benefits of real-time control can be applied to products in these traditionally difficult to access areas.

NIR gauging is an established technology for on-line measurement of moisture, fat, and protein in a wide variety of food, chemical and mineral products. The technique offers processors the possibility for precise control of these critical parameters in real time so that production can be controlled very close to target. The significant process benefits include better quality and consistency of product, reduced scrap and quicker start-up. Processors switching to online monitoring from traditional laboratory-based sampling typically report significant reductions in raw material and process costs.
MM710 PowderVision combines the proven MM710 online measurement gauge with an innovative new handling mechanism, PowderVision. A mechanical device installed directly in the duct, between the online gauge and the process, PowderVision continuously collects product and presents it to the gauge, without removing it from the process. In this way, online measurement is achieved inside the duct for meaningful process control. A built-in air controller co-ordinates the regular filling and cleaning of the cup to ensure optimum results.
MM710 PowderVision is supplied pre-configured for the application and is easy to install into any pipe or ducting using positive, negative or atmospheric pressure. Food grade materials and a sanitary design ensure the device is suitable for use in food processing.
Latest generation MM710 technology offers unprecedented reliability and stability of measurement in an easy to set up, factory-calibrated, "fit-and-forget" instrument. The gauge comes complete with a comprehensive range of networking and data acquisition options, including databus and TCP/IP protocols.
PowderVision is available separately for use with any MM710, and is also back-compatible with the previous generation Series 55 gauges.
