The Institute of Energy Conversion at the University of Delaware is a multi-disciplinary laboratory devoted to research and development of thin-film photovoltaic cells. The Institute was founded in 1972 and was designated a University Centre of Excellence for Photovoltaic Research and Education in 1992, an award presented by the US Department of Energy. Their research program is complemented by an educational mission that enables both undergraduate and graduate students to obtain degrees, while working with professionals engaged in solar cell research. The Institute of Energy Conversion is the only University Centre of Excellence supported by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory.
