Digital technology featured in Micro Motion's new transmitter range

Keywords: Technology, Transmitters

Digital technology is fast becoming the accepted method of process communication to open systems in today's industrial world. Micro Motion's new MVD™ Technology transmitters now offer the benefits of digital signal processing technology on a totally new level (see Plate 2). Elegant in its simplicity, practical in its cost savings, and compact in size, Micro Motion's MVD Technology transmitter is flexible, powerful, and will deliver an application solution without equal. Whether the requirement is for mass flow, density or temperature measurement, or a combination of all of these to deliver true multi-variable capability, this new transmitter is equally effective.

Micro Motion's new MVD Technology transmitters immediately translate the raw Coriolis sensor signals into digital information, avoiding any analogue steps. This results in a cleaner, more stable signal that is significantly faster. Incorporating multi-variable digital technology has also allowed Micro Motion to satisfy customer demands by providing a wealth of built-in diagnostic information, which helps the user to improve process management and reduce unnecessary downtime.

Micro Motion's new product range with MVD Technology features add-on transmitter modules that provide levels of measurement sophistication varying from a basic, single variable measurement to as many as four variable measurements simultaneously. The very compact digital signal processor, which comes mounted directly on the Micro Motion flowmeter, results in a "smart sensor".

The user's choice of transmitter module can be mounted directly on the sensor or connected remotely with a standard four-wire cable instead of the special nine-wire cables that are currently used on Coriolis meters. This wiring change can result in installation cost savings of over $5,000.

The Series 1000 and 2000 transmitter modules offer easy and cost effective remote mounting with a standard four-wire cable (up to 300 metres) and very broad diagnostics coverage. The simple start-up has no special programming requirements. A standard Zone 1 rated display for measurement and diagnostic information provides totaliser control and common start-up functions such as meter zero, output simulation, and output programming, as well as password security. The transmitter and display mounting both provide 360° of rotation.

The Series 1000 transmitter module is perfect for basic applications that require only one measurement variable through mA and frequency/pulse output using HART or Modbus digital communications protocols. Series 1000 users can choose one variable at a time for applications that have typically required volumetric measurement. Series 2000 transmitter users can access all four variables simultaneously through mA and/or frequency/pulse signals, or through HART, FOUNDATION fieldbus, Modbus, and Profibus PA digital communications protocols.

Fully backward compatible with all of Micro Motion's current sensors, this well-designed, compact and flexible product allows for easy upgrades and robust performance in the harshest environments while reducing costs through easy installation, improved process consistency, and maximum up-time.
