Matsushita's MP Motion Sensor – now available in four different types
Keywords: Motion, Sensors
With the ability to detect even the subtlest of movements, the ultra small MP Motion Sensor from Matsushita Electric Works sets new standards in PIR (Passive Infrared) technology and is now available in four different types (see Plate 8).
Probably the smallest PIR of its type, the MP Motion Sensor occupies just 10 per cent of the volume of conventional designs, enabling it to be installed into even the most minute of devices.

To meet all application eventualities, four versions are now available. These indude a long-range type with a sensing distance of 10m and a slight motion type with an impressive 104 detection zones. Also available is a spot type for narrow sensing applications and a standard type with a 5m sensing range and 64 detection zones.
The MP Motion Sensor's noise withstanding capability is at least twice that of conventional designs, ensuring that even mobile telephone interference is avoided. The device can also be driven by a microprocessor as it contains in-built amplifier, comparator and output circuitry.
The energy conscious MP Motion Sensor typically finds applications within security, energy and intelligent light management systems. This versatile device can additionally be utitised within access control, amusement and vending machine applications.
