Active safety, handling and comfort are particularly important in today's highly competitive car market. Kistler's Rotating Wheel Dynamometer (RWD) type 9298A allows these features to be optimised by accurately measuring the forces and moments acting on the wheels of a car (see Plate 4).

This device, which can operate over the full speed range of the car, has a very wide frequency range, which enables more accurate analysis than has been possible in the past. It replaces the standard wheel rim and can be easily mounted to the vehicle without modifications to the wheel hub or the suspension strut.

The RWD is a high performance tool for use on test tracks and on all types of rolling road test stands. Using the test data, one can build a sound basis for both determining and optimising tyre characteristics and suspension tuning, and also for the design of active suspension, traction and braking control systems.
