Data acquisition system for CompactPCl

Keywords Acquistion, Data, Measurement

PEP Modular Computers has complemented its CompactPCl product portfolio with regard to analogue measurement technology by introducing a high-speed, high-precision, multifunction, complete data acquisition module that is particularly beneficial because of the wide range of functions that it offers. Packaged in a versatile and rugged 3U form-factor, the CP370 provides the user with a range of single-ended or differential, unipolar or bipolar inputs, quad 12-bit analogue output channels and two individually programmable 16-bit digital I/O groups.

This innovative and versatile 32-bit board with its wide range of functions is suitable for automatic test and measurement and analysis applications, as well as process control systems, and is compatible with many available off-the-shelf software tools and utilities. There is full Plug & Play functionality (see Plate 6).

The CP370 consists of an analogue-digital converter, a digital-analogue converter and a digital input/output. Total sampling rate for this board is a maximum of 500 kHz. There are versions with 16 single-ended or 8 differential 12-bit voltage inputs or 4 simultaneous and 12 "normal" single-ended 12-bit input channels. Also provided are four 12-bit buffered or transparent output channels and two 16-bit digital I/O ports. Additionally, some configurations have two 16-bit free access, up/down counters. All analogue and digital connections are made to the front panel of the board.

With a relative conversion accuracy of ±0.003 percent, on-board precision reference source and dedicated DIA converters, the CP370 provides a "hands-off" hardware calibration.

This board is available in three different configurations: the CP370 for pure measurement data acquisition, the CP370-SIM for measurement data acquisition with simultaneous sampling and the CP370-SIG for signal generation with a combined full set of functions.

There is readily available driver support for HP VEE 4.0, Windows NT, Windows 95 and LabView. PEP also supplies software that enables calibration without external devices.
