Light detector amplifier module integrates into instruments, accepts input optics
Keywords Photodetector, Light, International Light, Optics
A new PC board module that easily integrates into PLCs and data acquisition systems for gathering light measurements by using International Light's input optics, without requiring a radiometer or photometer, is being introduced by international Light, Inc. of Newburyport, Massachsetts, USA (see Plate 1).
Plate 1 The IL A430 detector amplifier
The IL A430 Detector Amplifier is a PC board that provides photodetector current amplification and zero to five VDC output, allowing their IL-SEL series input optics to be connected to any data acquisition device. Featuring adjustable gain from ten nanoamps to 50 microamps full-scale with built-in threshold monitoring for alarm functions, this versatile module eliminates the need to have separate radiometer or photometer for sensing light.
Requiring only five to nine VDC power, the IL A430 Detector Amplifier has an LED which indicates when power is being applied to the PC board without input optics connected. With the detector plugged into the A430 and the power applied; the LED will turn-off at 60 percent of the gain setting. With the LED lit, current draw is 7.3 milliamps and for IL vacuum photodiodes a five VDC bias voltage is available.
The IL A430 Detector Amplifier is priced from US$249.00; depending upon quantity. Literature and quotations are available on request.
