Suitably written for teachers, graduate students, university researchers, R&D laser engineers, optical system design engineers and communication device and system engineers, Tunable Laser Diodes is a well written reference text.
Comprising nine chapters, this book starts with an introductory chapter, followed by discussion on fundamental laser diode characteristics. The underlying physics, operational principles, performance and applications of tunable laser diodes are covered in later chapters. Laser structures, tuning mechanisms and their properties are also discussed.
Chapters 3 and 4 address single‐mode laser diodes and the basic concepts for tunable laser diodes, respectively. Continuously tunable single‐mode laser diodes are discussed in Chapter 5, while linewidth broadening is covered in the following chapter. Chapter 7 discusses discontinuously tunable laser diodes.
The last two chapters of the book cover related components and applications. As with almost all technical books a number of useful appendices are included.
Overall, this book is worth reading by anyone interested in lasers and optical communications systems. The discussions are well written and the experimental results included are clearly presented.
