Compact temperature calibrator for field use

Keyword: Temperature

The CA12 temperature calibrator, one of Yokogawa's new "Handy-Cal" range of instruments, is a compact, handheld unit which is ideally suited to field use (Plate 12).

The new product is designed for the calibration of temperature controllers, recorders, converters and other measuring instruments which use thermocouples or resistance temperature detectors (RTDs) for temperature sensing. It will also produce a voltage output from -10 to +110 mV and a resistance output from 0 to 400°.

The CA12 can also be used as a multi-range thermometer reading in degrees Celsius or Fahrenheit. In addition to the safety terminals provided for the output voltages, the CA12 is supplied as standard with a screw-terminal adaptor to allow the connection of two- or three-wire temperature sensors.

A built-in reference junction compensation (RJC) circuit is used for thermocouple calibration and, for more precise calibration, an optional external RJC temperature sensor is also available.

The CA12 will simulate and measure from thermocouple types K, E, J, T, N and R, and RTD Pt100 sensors. Temperature range is from -200°C to +1,768°C, depending on the type of sensor, and accuracy is 0.05 per cent when used as a source and 0.07 per cent for measurement.

The handheld unit weighs only 440g, and is supplied with a handy carrying case which holds the calibrator without the need to disconnect the output cables.
