Distance setting sensors detect minute objects

Distance setting sensors detect minute objects

Keyword: Photoelectric sensors

Omron has introduced a distance setting photoelectric sensor which is able to detect even the most minute objects, offering stable detection regardless of glossiness, colour, material, surface irregularities or inclination.

The E3G-L1 sensor (Plate 5) provides a setting range of 30 to 50mm, while the E3G-L3 offers a setting range of 50mm to 200mm. The ability to detect minute objects comes by virtue of the Hyper LED light source giving a pin-point 1mm diameter spot of light. This is coupled with the shine-proof optical system to ensure stable detection of difficult targets.

The Hyper LED achieves stable detection of small objects by eliminating non-detection due to the drop-out which commonly occurs at the centre of conventional LEDs.

The sensors feature a one-touch teaching function to set-up the sensor for the object, background and conveyor. Fine adjustment of the sensitivity can be made in 13 levels in the normal mode or in five levels in the zone mode. The operation of the sensors suits them to meeting the needs of a broad spectrum of requirements across industries such as semiconductor and electronic component production, food, and packaging. Typical applications in normal mode would include detection of minute electronic components in a tray, detection of thin or uneven objects, and detection of objects on a production line with a glossy background. Zone mode applications might include detection of tiles on a conveyor, or detection of packaged confectionery on a conveyor.

The sensors are waterproofed to IP67, and are CE approved to European EMC Directives.
