This book is aimed at those who are new to the various aspects of ultrasound and those with no imaging background. The first nine chapters are introductory chapters and include a historical review of ultrasound, basic sound, ultrasound, an introduction to computers, system design, scanning systems, image storage - manipulation and display, image recording and doppler ultrasound. Chapters 10 and 11 discuss the use of equipment and dosimetry -- safety and bio-effects, respectively.
The remaining 11 chapters review the major areas of clinical application and cover gynaecology, obstetrics, the liver - pancreas and biliary system, the urinary system, general abdomen and retroperitoneum, neonatal head, small parts, orthopaedics and rheumatology, vascular imaging and peripheral vascular doppler. The final chapter introduces echocardiography and doppler.
Both clinical and technical glossaries are included; these are very useful for the reader who is unfamiliar with many of the terms used.
