Data Cell has been appointed an Integrator of Sherlock 32 from Imaging Technology Inc. Sherlock32 will be at the heart of Perceptor-Pro, Data Cell's configured industrial machine vision system.
Sherlock32 is a Windows based software package, which is easily configured for most on-line gauging, inspection, assembly verification and machine guidance tasks at speeds up to 1,500 parts per minute. Even inexperienced users can quickly set-up an application to perform such tasks as measuring dimensions, detecting flaws, verifying size and location and ensuring that components are properly assembled (see Figure 1).
Figure 1 The image shows the Sherlock32 user interface and application checking the number of threads on a screw. The Reporter32 shows the SPC information and a pass/fail result, which has been passed to the production line
Applications can be developed using Sherlock32 without the need for programming. The traditional stumbling block of machine vision applications has always been the application development. Now using simple user interfaces, development cost and time is dramatically reduced. The look and feel of an application can be tailored using Visual C or Visual Basic.
Sherlock32 has a complete range of statistical process control (SPC) tools including collection of real-time mean, variance, max, min, Cp, CpK, strip charts and histograms. Using dynamic data exchange (DDE) (standard in Windows) data can be passed to programs like Excel and third party SPC software for complete flexibility and integration.
Sherlock32 uses comprehensive support for digital and analogue IO as well as RS232 communications to make integration to a production line simple. Data Cell provides professional integration through their Vision Integration Partnership Programme using experts in fields such as pharmaceuticals, food, packaging and consumer electronics.
Custom applications with low run-time costs can be developed using MV Tools. MV Tools allows OEMs and other high volume customers to develop applications in C or visual basic using Sherlock32's tools. These libraries are specifically designed for machine vision applications.
Sherlock32 is ideal for vision applications in the automotive, consumer electronics, pharmaceutical, food and packaging industries. Thanks to the reduction in cost and development time and increase in speed, machine vision systems are becoming a strategic tool in mass production manufacturing.
