Checkpoint 900 Dual suits complex high-speed applications

By providing two Checkpoint 900 boards in one PC, Cognex Corporation's new Checkpoint 900 Dual enables users to inspect twice the number of parts at one, time-making it highly suited to applications requiring high inspection throughput, rapidly solving complex automated inspection tasks such as high-speed inspection, assembly verification, alignment and gauging (see Plate 2).

Capable of performing multiple grey-scale and colour vision inspection tasks simultaneously, the Checkpoint 900 Dual is ideal for applications such as cellular phone inspection in which one board could be configured for various tasks such as inspecting LCD displays for pixel intensity variations and scratches, while the other verifies the colour of specific keys on the keypad.

"With the Checkpoint 900 Dual, vision applications which previously required the use of separate systems can now be done on a single, self-contained PC", said Colin Graves, sales manager of Cognex UK. "This will lower system hardware and integration costs, while providing all of the field-proven benefits of Checkpoint technology, such as point-and-click application development and access to the most advanced vision software tools in the industry".

Consisting of an industrial-hardened, rack-mountable PC and two PClbus compatible Checkpoint 900 boards, the Checkpoint 900 Dual is an integrated machine vision system with support for up to four monochrome and a single colour camera. In addition to performing multiple vision tasks at once, the Checkpoint 900 Dual can display two live images simultaneously on a single monitor screen for multiple application monitoring.

The Checkpoint 900 Dual can be configured with any two Checkpoint 900 boards and is pre-installed with all hardware and software, simplifying system integration and deployment. The industrial PC features a 233 MHz MMX CPU and a rugged 19in wide chassis designed to withstand the harsh conditions found in factory floor environments, such as ambient temperatures and dust that can clog the drives and system. The chassis also provides top access to the CPU and controller cards for easy system upgrading.

The Checkpoint 900 Dual is currently available from Cognex UK and includes two Checkpoint 900 vision boards, a rack-mountable industrial PC with an onboard CPU, Windows, VGA card, keyboard and mouse and a 15in colour SVGA monitor.
