The advent of nanotechnology is accelerating dramatic changes in instrumentation. Both laboratory and in-plant instrumentation has shrunk over time, but that shrinkage is about to increase dramatically. The laboratory on a chip is fast becoming a commercial reality.

How will it affect analytical systems? What are the implications for the use of analysers in places where it is not now practical to employ them?

These and other issues are examined in detail in a new study from Technical Insights Lab-on-a-Chip: The Revolution in Portable Instrumentation (2nd ed.). This completely updated report focuses on the latest advances in corporate, government, and university laboratories around the world. It tracks the progress at over 24 research groups that are working to develop lab-on-a-chip, and about 50 companies involved in developing various components.

"There are simply too many technologies that go into lab-on-a-chip for any one company or any one lab to go it alone", says Peter Katz, publisher at Technical Insights. "That's why it's imperative for anyone who wants to exploit this emerging technology to learn who the players are and explore collaborative efforts."

Lab-on-a-chip spells out the opportunities for co-development, and licensing. It provides complete contact information, including the names, addresses, and phone numbers of the lab.

The report was produced by Technical Insights and John Wiley and Sons Inc., an independent publishing company. Last year, Wiley acquired Technical Insights, which provides print and electronic intelligence services and reports.

The report is available from Technical Insights for $2,200 ($2,275 outside the USA).
