Thermo LabSystems, a Thermo Electron business (NYSE:TMO) that provides laboratory informatics solutions and services for several industries, focused its demonstrations at Pittcon on its comprehensive laboratory informatics suite, which is based upon a range of products and the backup of Pathfinder, the company's global services group.

Tight integration between Thermo LabSystems solutions, plus powerful interfaces to third party and Thermo Electron instrument data systems, is said to provide customers with total solution for laboratory informatics. This integrated solution claims all the benefits of single-vendor source and support and helps eliminate the inefficiencies of processing paper in the laboratory.

At Pittcon 2002, Thermo LabSystems also launched eRecordManager, its new software solution for long-term analytical data archival. eRecordManager plays a pivotal role in the company's integrated offering. In addition to storing files in their original format, eRecordManager automates the translation of more than 150 analytical data file formats into a platform-neutral format based on XML.

Thermo LabSystems representatives at Pittcon 2002 demonstrated eRecordManager integrated with Thermo Galactic's desktop spectroscopy software, GRAMS/AI. Using eRecordManager and GRAMS/AI in tandem, spectral data in any original format is available for advanced reprocessing, visualisation, and library searching. eRecordManager was also presented with Thermo Nicolet's Omnic and Result software, Thermo Finnigan's Xcalibur software, and Thermo Spectronic's AMINCO-Bowman Series 2 Luminescence Spectrometer, all of which are said to offer the user the ability to archive files for the long term to support 21 CFR Part 11 compliance and information sharing (Plate 9).

"A single vendor that can offer a clear route to the paper-free lab is something of a nirvana for science-based organisations around the world," said Dr. Gordon Logan, president of the Informatics division of Thermo Electron and managing director of Thermo LabSystems. "With integrated solutions, such as eRecordManager, the One Thermo approach is making this a reality."

Thermo LabSystems specialises in the development, implementation, and support of laboratory informatics solutions and services. Thermo LabSystems offers LIMS (Laboratory Information Management Systems), chromatography data systems, and instrument integration solutions.
