Article Type: Editorial From: Pacific Accounting Review, Volume 21, Issue 1

Welcome to Volume 21 of the Pacific Accounting Review (PAR). In this issue, we welcome Professor Glenn Boyle as a new Co-editor to take over from Professor Edwin Maberly as Editor responsible for handling finance-related papers. Glenn tells us it is an honour and a privilege to join the PAR team as the Editor responsible for handling finance submissions, but also somewhat daunting given the excellent job done by predecessors in this role. As befits, a University of Texas graduate, he intends to follow that old bit of Texan advice: “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” As such, he plans to continue to encourage the submission of good-quality and interesting finance research from around the globe. Papers dealing with some aspect of financial markets and organisations in the Pacific region are especially welcome, but so too are submissions from further afield. Glenn’s aims are threefold: to make the reviewing process a valuable and positive experience, to encourage authors to extract the most they can from their papers, and to keep delays to a minimum. Of course, he reckons he shall probably fail in all three of these at various times, but asks for your forbearance in advance.

After authors, the most important people for any editor are referees. To those who we call upon for this difficult task, we thank you in advance for your help and advice, and promise not to come knocking at your door too often.

As Editors, our thanks go to Professor Edwin Maberly for his unstinting efforts managing the finance-related papers during 2007 and 2008. Ed joined the team when the University of Canterbury took up the editorial role for PAR at the start of 2007, but left for Monash, Australia almost immediately, and hence worked entirely remotely during his editorial duty. Our thanks also go to Dr Yvonne Shanahan who has stepped down from the Editorial Advisory Board. Yvonne served on the board from 2004, and has recently relinquished her academic duties to be become Chief Financial Officer of the University of Canterbury. We would also like to welcome onto the Editorial Advisory Board, Richard Fisher. Richard continues to serve as Book Review Editor, but in recognition of his unstinting efforts as an Ad hoc Co-editor handling auditing and financial accounting papers, he now joins the board formally.

Professor Glenn Boyle.

Glenn Boyle joined the University of Canterbury in December 2008 as the inaugural BNZ Chair of Finance. He has previously been Assistant Professor of Finance at Louisiana State University (1987-1990), Professor of Finance at Otago University (1991-2004), and Executive Director of the NZ Institute for the Study of Competition and Regulation (2004-2008). In addition to his position at Canterbury, Glenn is Co-chair of the Australia-New Zealand Shadow Financial Regulatory Committee, ISCR Distinguished Research Fellow, Research Fellow at the CUTS Centre for Competition, Investment and Economic Regulation, member of the Board of Advisors at the ISB’s Centre for Analytical Finance, and the Director of consulting firm LECG.
