A vision and strategy for the journal

In this editorial, I would like to introduce myself to our readership and new editorial board members as well as current and potential contributors and reviewers. The role of editing Management Research News provides significant scope to engage with the stakeholders of management research in a global business context. I also look forward to working closely with my co-editor Joe Sarkis of Clark University in the USA. My background includes consulting widely in the Asian region on higher education management, international management, management development, risk management and strategy for both private and public organizations. I have lived and worked in several Asian countries and have strong academic interests in the areas of international business, international management and higher education management. My main research areas include work organization and management development in Sino-foreign joint ventures.

A vision and strategy for the journal

Following on from the vision and strategy for the journal articulated by Joe Sarkis, the need to make MRN a genuine vehicle for authors to communicate their research findings and ideas is foremost in our minds. In this context, the quality of a journal will be bolstered by using a blind external reviewing process (initially with one external peer reviewer, eventually increasing this number) and the rigorous editorial review. It is also recognized that MRN needs to include a broad range of topics in the general field of management and business. Consequently, the journal will remain flexible and seek to publish articles in emerging areas of management and business-related research in its pages. As Joe Sarkis suggested recently in MRN, as editors we will constantly strive to be cognizant of emerging research topics, actively seek to engage effective and efficient reviewers and rigorously maintain the quality of the journal, while completing 12 issues per year. We anticipate that our customers, readers, authors, students and professionals will help us where possible in meeting these challenges.

MRN is also introducing a book review section. This initiative will be edited by Dr Tim Bartram of La Trobe University in Australia. We look forward to working with Tim in developing this section of MRN. In addition, we also have special issues of the journal in mind. If you have an idea for a special issue, which covers an emergent or topical area in management and related research, please contact the editors. We are willing to entertain creative and novel ideas from across all our disciplines. Please review the guidelines for contributors and authors, which appear on the inside back cover of the journal and on our website at: http://www.emeraldinsight.com/info/journals/mrn/notes.jsp

Finally, we hope that all scholars will consider submitting their articles to MRN. If you are unsure if your ideas fit with MRN, please feel free to contact us directly. My email contact is mike.berrell@rmit.edu.au. Other relevant information about MRN can also be found at our web site: www.emeraldinsight.com/info/journals/mrn/notes.jsp

I look forward to working with all of you in the coming period.

Mike Berrell
