Micro Circuit Engineering (MCE) has launched a new capability to design, build and test customised solid state power controllers (SSPCs) for a wide range of applications.

SSPCs provide an alternative to simple circuit breakers and relays for actuators, switches, heaters, generators, converters and motors. They have advantages in terms of lower size and weight and enhanced system performance (Plate 2). However, due to their degree of complexity, their applications have traditionally been limited to high value aerospace/defence electronics, where hermeticity and high reliability are mandatory.

MCE has now established a comprehensive design, manufacturing and testing capability for customised power controllers. A modular approach has been developed to enable companies to select the most appropriate technologies for their specific application. The capability includes power handling up to 600V and 100A, integration of control electronics and a flexible testing facility.

The company is also developing lower cost packaging solutions for non-hermetic applications.
