Expanding efforts at California Micro Devices attract thin film veteran

California Micro Devices Corporation announced that it has expanded its efforts into the thin film passives industry with the appointment of Frank Ellis as product marketing manager. Mr Ellis joins California Micro Devices after 33 years in the semiconductor industry, most recently as business engineering manager for the displays product group at National Semiconductor. Mr Ellis spent many of those years working closely with California Micro Devices as a supplier of metallized substrates and die for National's computer monitor products.
Mr Ellis began his semiconductor career in 1965 with Fairchild Semiconductor where he held various positions in engineering and operations including that of engineering manager for Fairchild's Hong Kong manufacturing facility. Later, Mr Ellis headed up the construction of Fairchild's new LCD displays manufacturing facility in Hong Kong and was key in transferring their entire discrete manufacturing facility from Hong Kong to CEBU, Philippines. Mr Ellis also served as operations manager for Fairchild's Singapore facility that manufactures large-scale integrated circuits.
Mr Ellis received his Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Heald Engineering College of San Francisco. Prior to joining the semiconductor industry, Mr Ellis held technical positions in the space industry with Aerojet and Lockheed.
