Most trainers, HR professionals, line managers and team leaders find that at some point they could do with a questionnaire or inventory to aid their training. Very often these are required to help chart progress or skill acquisition produced by the training (i.e. the degree to which the training has been effective), but they can also be used as discussion points. This compendium contains nearly 50 such inventories grouped into ten categories; coaching/counselling, communication, customer care, leadership skills, organizational awareness, performance management, personal effectiveness, recruitment and selection, team working and training/development. Many of the inventories are followed by scoring schemes and explanations as well as tips on the key learning points relating to each topic.

The questionnaires are obviously developed from the personal experience of the trainer, and thus cannot be said to be proven reliable or valid in any scientific sense in the way that other existing measures are. However, for practical purposes, these questionnaires should certainly do the job, and in any case, there are many inventories included here that do not have any corresponding validated cohort. I feel that the compendium represents good value for money and has the added benefit of not being time-limited and should thus prove a good investment.
