America - CHCF announces fellows for health care leadership program
The California HealthCare Foundation (CHCF) selected 30 health professionals for the sixth class of Health Care Leadership Program. The program helps talented professionals acquire the skills needed to positively influence health care policy and delivery in California. Sponsored by CHCF, it is administered by The Center for the Health Professions at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF).
Mark D. Smith, MD, MBA, president and CEO of the California HealthCare Foundation, said:
For the sixth year, we’re proud to continue this effort to support some of California’s most dynamic health care leaders. This diverse group of professionals will be working toward innovative solutions that improve the quality and efficiency of health care in California.
Over the course of two years, fellows convene in seminars led by nationally recognized health care and leadership development experts and faculty associated with UCLA’s Anderson School of Management. The program addresses health care issues from business, leadership, and public policy perspectives. Participants learn to build and lead teams, manage complexity and change, understand and use financial management tools, and respond to the changing health care environment.
Alumnus Dr Sang-ick Chang, medical director and chief operating officer of the San Mateo Medical Center, said:
The fellowship was nothing less than transformative. It came at a point in my career when I needed more leadership skills to succeed in a new role, and the fellowship gave me those skills. As a result of my experiences in the fellowship, I feel both inspired and prepared to play a role in leading change in health care at the local, state, and even national level.
