This book is published in the series: “Advances in Group Decision and Negotiation: 5” and it is claimed to be the first comprehensive review of e-participation and e-democracy. The editors are of the opinion that web-base interactions to support participation and deliberative democracy are approaching. They say that:
In some instances, the Internet is already permeating politics. However, it is far from clear if the processes involved in these interactions are meaningful and valid, and most of the research in the field has focused largely on technologies to facilitate or automate the standard democratic instruments involved, such as e-voting and e-debating.
The editors have structured their text using the viewpoint of the Group Decision and Negotiation approach to clearly explain and present how web-based decision support tools can be utilized for public policy decision making.
