The publishers claim that it is a unique book because it is the first text that provides the “state-of-the-art” in this particular area. There is no doubt of the present-day importance of the field in cybernetics and systems which have embraced what is usually referred to as part of computer science. The authors aim to provide “a complete overview” of software developed for parallel and distributed programming for heterogeneous networks. It also includes consideration of parallel programming systems and also grid-based systems. This is an area that is rapidly developing and gaining a great deal of attention.
