Pacific Rim Real Estate Society 2001 Conference update: Adelaide

The 7th Annual Pacific Rim Real Estate Society (PRRES) conference was held in Adelaide, Australia over 21-24 January, 2001. This conference was organised by the University of South Australia, and led by Geoff Page, Rob Kooymans and Peter Rossini.

Over 120 property researchers and practitioners attended this conference. Eighty-four property research papers were presented, as well as keynote addresses from:

  • Professor Yu Shi Ming: National University of Singapore (Plate 3).

  • Mark Steinert: UBS Warburg.

  • Jane Murray: Jones Lang LaSalle.

  • Mervyn Lewis: University of South Australia.

Highlights of the PRRES 2001 conference included:

  • Conference dinner hosted by the Mayor of Adelaide at the Adelaide Town Hall.

  • The PRRES "Achievement Award" went to Professor Terry Boyd of QUT for his outstanding contribution to property education and research in the Pacific Rim.

  • The Australian Property Institute sponsored "New Researcher Award" went to Richard Reed of University of Queensland for his research into demographic analysis and property implications (Plate 4).

  • The "Best Paper Award" went to Sandy Bond of the University of Auckland for her paper on conjoint analysis in valuation of contaminated land.

Following the PRRES board meeting, the 2001 PRRES officers are:

  • President: Patrick Rowland (Plate 5).

  • President-elect: Geoff Page

  • Past-President John Loh

  • Executive Director: Angelo Karantonis

The 2001 PRRES board of directors has representation from Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Fiji, 25 per cent of the PRRES boad being female.

The Pacific Rim Property Research Journal is now quarterly; Professor Graeme Newell is the editor (g.newell@uws.edu.au). All journal procedures including submission of papers and refereeing is via e-mail.

The Property Research Council of Australia (PRCA) has also been established as a joint venture between PRRES and the Property Council of Australia (PCA) to facilitate research between property academics and property professionals. A number of research reports are expected in 2001.
