Introduction
Companies spend billions of dollars annually on the design, installation, operation, and maintenance of production lines. Due to the importance of such lines in the production of many goods and services, a considerable number of investigations have been conducted to study their operating behaviour and to determine ways of improving their efficiency. The main objective of this special JMTM issue is to promote and disseminate research that deals with production line systems. It will offer researchers and practitioners the most recent concepts, methodologies, and techniques in this important field.
Subject coverage
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
- •
Paced/unpaced production systems
- •
Assembly/disassembly systems
- •
Merging/splitting systems
- •
Unbalanced/balanced systems
- •
Reliable/unreliable machine systems
- •
Just-in-time/TOC, DBR, CONWIP systems
- •
Bucket brigade systems
- •
Analytical/simulation modelling approaches to production systems.
