Title: Robotic cylinder weldingApplicant: Lincoln Global Inc [US]Patent number: US2004217096Publication date: 4 November 2004

Keywords: Robotics, Patents, Welding

A first embodiment of the present application is directed to a method and system used to weld a cylindrical workpiece. A substantially cylindrical workpiece is loaded into a workpiece support, and a robotic welding arm is positioned located at a start position. A value representing a size of the cylindrical workpiece is input into a robot controller via a system interface. Inputting of the size value to the robotic interface obtains a control program. Operation of the obtained control program is initiated by an operator, causing the robot arm to move a preprogrammed distance toward a work surface of the workpiece. Then a welding process is performed by the welder carried on the robot arm in accordance with the control program. The process includes initiating operation of the welder, and moving the welder in a pattern appropriate for the welding operation. The workpiece and welder are moved relative to each other so as to perform the welding process as determined by the control program.

Title: Multi-station robotic welding assemblyApplicant: Passmore Michael L [US];Smyth Douglas E [US]Patent number: US2004138782Publication date: 15 July 2004

A multi-station robotic welding assembly includes a mounting platform, and a plurality of robots attached to the mounting platform and located in respective weld stations. Each of the robots includes an elongated movable arm and wrist. A welding torch is attached to each of the robots, and is adapted for being manipulated by the movable arm and wrist. A rotatable fixture base is located on the mounting platform, and is adapted for supporting a plurality of fixtures. Each of the fixtures is adapted for holding and positioning a workpiece for welding in respective weld stations. A base indexer is adapted for repeatedly rotating the fixture base by a predetermined degree, such that the fixtures are positioned within respective weld stations for an index interval sufficient to complete welding of the workpieces.

Title: A method for positioning a welding robot toolApplicant: ABB AB [SE]; Luthardt Colin [SE]Patent number: WO2005005089Publication date: 20 January 2005

A method for joining together at least two sheets by means of a tool controlled by an industrial robot and comprising a first arm and a second arm which are mutually movable in relation to each other. The actual position of the sheets is detected by bringing one of the arms to sense the actual position of the sheets. The distance between an ideal position and the actual position is calculated and the position of the tool is moved the calculated distance, whereafter the sheets are joined together.

Title: Welding robot system and welding methodApplicant: Toyota Motor CorpPatent number: JP2004302507Publication date: 28 October 2004Inventor: Ono Saburo; Koyama Shinji

Problem to be solved: To provide a welding robot system for appropriately avoiding an erroneous change of welding data with changing the teaching and surely informing the fact of the erroneous change.

Solution: If the value of a management item required to be corrected lies outside a change allowable range, since rewriting of teaching data stored in a teaching data storage is inhibited, it is possible to avoid changes to contents of the teaching data (including a welding path, welding length, etc.) different from those of designing intention, and in turn to avoid manufacture of the product with a deteriorated welding quality. Since the fact the value of the management item required to be corrected is out of the range is informed through an alarm and a touch panel type display, it becomes possible for a worker to recognize the fact and quickly handle the correction request, therefore, it is possible to speed up the production process correspondingly.

Title: Control system using working robot, and work processing method using this systemApplicant: Honda Motor Co Ltd [JP];Izawa Akinobu [JP]; Era Tetsuo [JP];Ueda Koji [JP]; Yamagami Takeshi [JP]Patent number: WO2004069491Publication date: 19 August 2004

This control system comprises a welding robot for moving a welding torch along work to weld the latter, a robot controller for controlling the driving of the welding robot, a laser sensor head for detecting a change in the shape of the work which occurs during welding using the welding torch, and a personal computer which obtains information on instruction for the welding robot corresponding to a change in the shape of the work based on the result of detection by the laser sensor head. The robot controller moves the welding torch by controlling the driving of the welding robot on the basis of the information on instruction obtained by the personal computer.
