The Ford Motor Company established itself in South Africa in 1911, with its Port Elizabeth assembly plant being opened in 1924. Ford South Africa ran on its own until 1985, when it merged with the automotive operations of Anglo American to form Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa.

This is an interesting site that provides company information and provides details of the assembly plant and the assembly process. Links can be found to other members of the Ford Group and to their motor sport activities.
