Inmoco's new PMA Series from Pacific Scientific is a rugged range of cost-effective servomotors designed to provide high levels of torque and long, maintenance free operation in highly dynamic applications (see Plate 8). The IP65 rated, PMA Series is the ideal complement to Inmoco's SCE 900 and PC800 series of AC servo amplifiers, the combination providing the optimum in digital performance (torque, velocity and position control) in applications such as electronic assembly, packaging, materials handling, robotics and X-Y positioning.

Plate 8 Inmoco’s new PMA Series from Pacific Scientific is a rugged range of cost-effective servomotors designed to provide high levels of torque and long, maintenance-free operation in highly dynamic applications

The PMA Series covers a range of frame sizes from 70mm square to 190mm square and offers continuous rated torque in the range from 0.5 to 48.5Nm. The servomotors have global certifications and this, combined with input voltages to 480V on most models, benefits OEMs by ensuring their acceptance on machines supplied world-wide.

The PMA servomotors are of rugged brushless construction to enable them to withstand the rigours of the factory floor with minimum levels of maintenance. They are equipped with high performance neodymium-iron-boron magnets to achieve the highest torque to inertia ratios possible and employ an anti-cogging motor design that ensures smooth performance at low speeds.

The fully enclosed structure of the PMA Series servomotors is protected to IP65 as standard, with IP67 (washdown duty) as an option on certain models. The IP65 rating allows the motors to be used in dusty atmospheres and areas where machines may be subjected to water jets. Additional protection measures include Class H insulation of the windings, which enhances motor life, and thermistor protection against over-temperature operation.

The flexibility of the PMA servomotors for OEM use is enhanced by the number of feedback options available. In addition to the Resolver feedback, these include Digital Commutating Encoder or SinCos encoder for applications where ultra-high resolutions are required. The performance of these devices is enhanced in all cases by the provision on the motors of high quality feedback (and power) interconnectors.

The range of options for the PMA series includes an optional encoder mounting to facilitate a secondary feedback device and an integral parking brake. The brake is internal; it improves machine safety and offers the advantage that it adds nothing to the length to the standard motor.

Other options are keyway and DIN 42995R shafts.

As a measure of confidence in the CE compliant PMA Series, all the motors supplied by Inmoco offer the security of a two -year warranty. Inmoco also supplies the SCE900 drives which are matched to the PMA Series, the package providing higher performance and efficiency and more usable torque in any application.
