Keywords Encoders, Accuracy

The ROC 417 absolute, singleturn encoder outputs 131,072 absolute position values per revolution and has an accuracy of ±10 arc seconds (see Plate 6). With a housing diameter of 58mm, the ROC 417 features an overall length of only 52mm, depending on the cable exit or flange socket configuration. The stator coupling is connected to the synchro flange with electrical connection through an encoder cable or flange socket.

The ROC 417 outputs the required absolute position value through the bi-directional EnDat connected through a gateway to the PROFIBUS-DP. In addition, the unidirectional SSI interface can also be used.

The ROC 417 singleturn rotary encoder supplements the absolute position values by also providing sinusoidal incremental signals with 8,192 signal periods per revolution. The high quality of these sinusoidal signal periods permits up to a 2,048-fold subdivision, thus providing up to 16 million measuring steps per revolution, resulting in an extremely small speed ripple, even in slow-running motors. The high bandwidth of the electronics also permits speeds of up to 2,000revs/minute.
