All good things come from above

Two new shelf-mounted robots which cut cycle times and boost productivity are now available from KUKA, the UK's leading supplier of industrial robots and automated production systems (see Plate 7).
Plate 7 KUKA
has launched two new shelf-mounted robots - the KR30/K and KR609/K - which can
be used for a wide range of applications
The flexibility and speed of KUKA's new KR 30/K and KR 60/K mean they can rapidly load and unload equipment, machine workpieces and even transfer components to other work stations for further processing.
They can also be used for a wide range of applications such as handling and packaging tasks, deburring, flame machining, part insertion, milling and spraying.
KUKA's new shelf-mounted robots have a reach of more than 2,300mm to the front and 1,096mm below the base. The KR 30 version can handle payloads up to 30kg while the KR 60 is rated for payloads up to 60kg.
Both robots are designed for machines in the medium holding pressure range and are particularly suitable for use in the injection moulding, diecasting and machine tool industries.
Thanks to their elevated position, the robots not only save space but also ensure an unrestricted view of the machine, robot and adjacent stations for operating personnel.
KUKA's shelf-mounted robots are easy to use and are programmed via a PC-based controller using Windows software. It is also possible to create a customised user interface to take account of established standards in a specific industry.
"KUKA's new KR 30/K and KR 60/1K are extremely versatile and can be mounted above or as part of a machine. This is a very important factor where space is limited around equipment which is often the case in many existing factory layouts," commented Brett Green, KUKA UK's sales manager.
"What's more, these new KUKA robots can perform almost every conceivable kind of further processing which may be required on the workpiece. They can also be used for handling and packaging tasks, deburring work, milling and spraying.
"These are just a few of the possible options. The possibilities are only limited by imagination, not by the technology," he added.
