PW wins further orders from Cosel

Contracts to supply robot welding guns to Bertrand Faure and Van Leer have been awarded to PORTABLE WELDERS, one of Europe's leading manufacturers of resistance welding equipment, by Cosel. Cosel the well known French resistance welding line and machine builder are putting together the new welding systems for both companies.

The automated cell being supplied to Bertrand Faure, a leading French automotive seat manufacturer, will be used in their Brazilbased plant. The scissor-type gun is from Portable Welders' latest release of robot welding equipment (see Plate 3). These robot guns have been developed to keep Portable Welders at the very forefront of spot welding technology and now feature further improved balancing and main bearing systems and, can offer pressures of 600daN from five bar air supplies.

The second company to be supplied by Portable Welders, Van Leer is a manufacturer of storage and handling equipment. PW is supplying them with two cells which will be used in the production of handling cages and will spot weld the pallet base to the tubular steel frame. The first cell is to be sent to France and the second, whose "C" type gun has a special low pressure cylinder so that it does not crush the tube, is destined for the USA.

For controls all three guns have been supplied with the latest "state-of-the-art" WS2000 Weldstar control. This offers a wide range of programme facilities including a constant current function (which maintains the current at a constant pre-set level, irrespective of changing weld conditions) full monitoring, heat stepping (thereby extending the life of the electrodes) and, SPC analysis. All of these contribute to guaranteeing consistently high weld quality.

These contracts follow on from a successfully completed project undertaken by Portable Welders for Cosel last year involving the supply of seven scissor-type robot guns for Bertrand Faure's Walesbased plant, judged by Management Today Magazine as the "joint best engineering factory for 1997". Portable Welders were approved by Cosel for this initial order due to their ability to supply local, aftersales service to the Welsh plant whenever it is needed.
