ATM Automation of Leicester, have recently completed a 75,000 Dutch Guilder contract (more than £23,000) to install a second robotic system at the production works of Pema Plastics B V, located at Heesch in The Netherlands. The contract was for the supply of an ATM model EX-S 2000 robot and its installation onto a Sandretto 380 tonne injection moulding machine.
Pema Plastics is a privately owned company which specialises in the custom moulding of a wide range of household plastic ware under their client's brand name "Mepal". Following the continued successful operation of an earlier installation onto a 440 tonne Sandretto moulding machine, Pema Plastics invited ATM to provide a similar facility on a new machine.
Production requirements specify that the hot moulded components must be kept clean, which does not allow manual handling. The robot was fitted with grippers suitable for manipulating the variety of moulded items and has a 900 rotation unit to demould them and place them on a conveyor system.
Pema Plastics had developed confidence in ATM's products and customer care services from their earlier dealings. Experience showed that the robotic systems were fundamental in increasing production throughput, ensuring consistent quality control and reducing costs.
