Te Puna offered to New Zealand libraries
Keywords New Zealand, Internet, Libraries
Te Puna is an information access tool for all New Zealand libraries and their clients. The services of Te Puna are managed by the National Library of New Zealand, whose role is to collect and maintain literature and information resources that relate to New Zealand and the Pacific and make this information available.
Te Puna includes information about what New Zealand libraries have on their shelves, as well as providing access to the National Library's own databases, such as Index New Zealand. It also offers sophisticated cataloguing and interloan services.
The Maori words Te Puna translates in English as "the wellspring" or "the pool". This is to reflect the information base or pool that is held in the system and which is accessible through Internet connections. The imagery is also drawn from the National Library of New Zealand's name, Te Puna Matauranga o Aotearo (the wellspring of knowledge).
