National Library of Medicine launch new online catalogue
Keywords: Library services, Online retrieval, Catalogues, Internet, USA
In the USA, the National Library of Medicine unveiled its new web catalogue, LOCATORplus, on 12 April. This catalogue will allow users with Internet access to locate books, audiovisuals, manuscripts and other materials from the medical library.
Users are able to search the catalogue by specific fields including author, title, conference name, keywords and then e-mail the results to themselves. Many records contain hotlinks to on-line journals for easy access; and current receipts of serial and monograph material will be displayed with information about material on order.
LOCATORplus forms part of the National Library of Medicine's new integrated library system, which is being used for acquisitions, serials control, cataloguing, collection management, circulation and preservation. It is the integrated library system's on-line public access catalogue.
LOCATORplus can be found at: http://www.nlm.nih.gov/locatorplus/
