Vietnam’s overland transport industry

Figures from a recent survey show the low productivity of Vietnam’s overland transport when compared to that of Japan, where a lorry runs 26 days a month, 22 hours a day.

The World Economic Forum report gave Vietnam 2.98 points (where the lowest is 1 and the highest is 7) in terms of competitiveness in overland transport.

In the report, Vietnam’s overland transport lags behind most other countries in South East Asia including Thailand, Malaysia, and the Philippines.

At a workshop on Vietnam’s transport competitiveness held in Hanoi recently by Vietnam’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), experts pointed out that if local enterprises cannot find a way to improve the situation, Vietnam’s goods will be carried out by foreign transport firms in the region.
