Olive green
I came across what is probably an apocryphal story the other day. If any reader can vouch for its authenticity, I’d be happy to hear from him/her. The story is that Robert L. Crandall, the chairman of American Airlines in the 1980s, encouraged ideas and suggestions for cost-savings from his staff. In 1987, two flight attendants working in first class noticed that many passengers left on their plate at least one of the two olives they were served as part of the salad that accompanied their meal. Their suggestion was to serve only one olive. Crandall thought this a great idea, implemented it and saved the airline $40,000 per year. True?
