Serco managers earn diploma
Three managers from Serco Group, who work at RAF bases across the UK, have taken a step up the management ladder by gaining a nationally recognized diploma.
The managers hold positions such as site and supply manager and quality and safety manager on their bases. They join six colleagues in other industries to be awarded their diploma in management by the Chartered Management Institute.
The candidates studied for their diplomas at work, using practical workplace examples to ensure the program was relevant to their specific needs. To achieve success, the graduates completed a series of modules covering subjects that included operational management, customer-service management and managing people. The candidates also had to submit five work-based projects for assessment. The program took them 15 months to complete and can be used as a first step towards achieving an MBA or the professional hallmark of chartered-manager status.

We are pursuing sophisticated and complex contracts that require greater managerial or technological skills than ever, so it is vital that our managers are qualified to nationally recognized standards.
The program was developed to fit into workplace needs and the nine candidates were able to pursue the course at their own rate and as time allowed. It also took into account different work and personal obligations by providing training through a combination of supported distance-learning and location-based assignments.
