Team develops bio-technology career paths in eastern Europe

The University of Greenwich is taking part in a three-year project to develop curriculum and training materials to help young people in Romania and Slovakia to take advantage of growing career opportunities in the bio-technology industry.

The project, financed under the EU’s Leonardo vocational-training programme and led by the University Politechnia of Bucharest, has developed a virtual European centre in career counselling, plus a bio-technology competencies reference Web site.

Dr Nandini Dasgupta, of the University of Greenwich, said:

  • Bio-technology is one of the fastest growing industries in Europe. Our goal has been to provide access to training and curriculum material in Eastern Europe, in addition to detailed information about employment in the bio-technology industry, so that universities and colleges can develop new career-orientated programmes.

  • We have also been able to incorporate models and recommendations encouraging the provision of full access to such training for all young people and to meet current EU criteria.
