New system aims to improve management and measurement of Web-based training

Keywords: Training, Internet measurement

Pathlore Software has launched PHOENIX Web, a standards-based training management system that aims to help companies manage and optimize employee performance on any Web-based courseware. PHOENIX Web is designed to let organizations know who is taking their Web-based training courses and exactly how they are doing; thus helping to ensure a healthy return on the company's investment in Web-based training.

PHOENIX Web allows developers to create courseware using their favourite Web authoring tools; then PHOENIX manages the training and measures student performance. PHOENIX Web also plugs management and measurement into any existing Web content, regardless of how the author created it. These capabilities should benefit the many organizations that train their employees over the Web but need to know more about their performance, commitment and development.

"There's a huge market demand to bring management and measurement to Web-based training", said training analyst, Brandon Hall, editor of the Multimedia & Internet Training Newsletter (http://www.brandon-hall.com). "PHOENIX Web is designed to take any existing Web-based course, regardless of how it was created, and add student tracking, reporting and course and curriculum management. This complements Pathlore's PHOENIX NetWorks offering, which gives customers an integrated authoring, delivery and management system in our standards-based system." Both PHOENIX products will tap a Web-based training industry that Hall predicts will reach $1.5 billion by the year 2000.

According to Pathlore's chief operating officer, Bruce Duff: "PHOENIX Web is the only Web training management system that preserves the courseware's look and feel, and spares organizations from complex courseware re-programming. Other products, by contrast, consume as much as 25 per cent of the browser window and require months of re-programming to fit proprietary training management tools".

PHOENIX Web includes student tracking, registration, course and curriculum management, and performance reporting.
