Financial Times Management has launched a new resource aimed at open learning centres (see Plate 1). It provides guidance on both strategic and day-to-day management, helping the user to identify key issues, understand methodology and make decisions.

Based on proven methods and experience gained from working with companies in different industrial sectors across Europe, the Toolkit makes no assumptions about learning centre size, type or scope. Contents include: information, learning materials, profilers and planning tools.

Sheena Atkinson, Learning Centre Specialist for Financial Times Management, comments: "Organizations are becoming increasingly aware of the dynamic impact learning centres can have on their training and development objectives. As more demands are placed on learning centres, those who manage them will need to diversify and expand their own skills. The Toolkit was developed in response to this need to inform, to inspire and advise on the running of an efficient and effective learning resource centre."

A range of workshops aimed at those who run open learning centres also complements the Toolkit. Topics covered include: setting up an open learning centre and centre administration. The workshops are to be held at a range of venues across the UK. The consultancy services can be tailored to any company's individual requirements and include a centre audit and benchmarking services.
