I am delighted to be welcoming you to the first issue of Volume 27 of Gender in Management: An International Journal. The journal is a highly respected publication in the area of gender-based research in management and leadership, attracting both an international authorship and readership.
As many of you know I have recently taken over as editor in chief and am pleased to report that Professor Sharon Mavin continues in her role as consulting editor. I would first like to take this opportunity to thank Dr Sandra Fielden for her outstanding work on the journal over the last ten years. You might be aware that in 2010 Sandra received an Outstanding Editor Award, Emerald’s highest accolade, for her service to Gender in Management. This well-deserved award was in recognition of her work in raising the quality of published content and strengthening the journal’s international profile. I am delighted to confirm that Sandra will remain on the Editorial Advisory Board and so we are able to continue to draw on her expertise and wisdom.
Academics continue to work in a competitive research assessment environment and we aim to continue to work hard at increasing the journal’s rating. To this end, we encourage you to submit your excellent quality articles to the journal. Gender in Management: An International Journal encourages submissions which focus on the subject of gender within the context of management and leadership. At the time of writing our publication lead dates enable an excellent opportunity to publish your research early, and there is still an opportunity for publication in the journal before the UK REF exercise. Full details of how to submit an article to the journal can be found on the web site.
If you have an idea you would like to propose for a special issue of the journal where you would act as a guest editor, please contact me to discuss further. It is valuable to have some issues each year dedicated to particular topic areas and drawing on the expertise of established and new academics in the field.
I would like to encourage you to also help us to raise the journal’s profile by continuing to draw upon research already published in the journal in your own current research and publications (i.e. cite publications from the journal in your own articles).
The academic standard of the journal has risen significantly over the years and we continue to work on this aspect of the journal. The journal is moving to three blind reviewers for each submission. To enable this, we are looking for new reviewers. By reviewing articles you are able to keep up to date with the latest research and acquire a critical view of research articles. Each year, all reviewers will be listed in the final issue of the journal to note our thanks, and also it is a good way of being considered for joining the Editorial Review Board. If you would like act as a reviewer for the journal and do not already have an account, you can register at manuscript central http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/gm and click on “register here” on the right-hand side of the screen.
Gender in Management continues to publish a regular book reviews section which is edited by Dr Marianne Tremaine of Massey University. In order to develop the section we would also like to hear from any of you who are about to become published book authors. Please e-mail Catherine Smith (csmith@emeraldinsight.com) with the title and publication details so that we can request a review copy from the publisher.
