This is clearly a very important book for anyone who is interested in the future of Europe, Europhobes included. Two of its main contributors are Philip Hartman of the European Central Bank and Noriko Harma from the Mitsubishi Research Institute.
Hartman is essentially optimistic. He feels that the Central Bank's primary objective of price stability ensures a stable monetary environment. Harma feels that the world will have to contend with not only the dollar but also another volatile currency representing yet another very large economic entity.
It is interesting to note that Professor Bernard Lietaer, architect of the Euro and author of the European Commission's White Paper, veers towards Noriko Harma's viewpoint and therefore stresses that it can only succeed if local complementary currencies are created in a Europe of the Regions.
