Abstract

Development of both domestic and foreign tourism in Poland, its volume, structure and rates of growth have been recently subjected to repeated scientific research. In 1978 series of diagnostic analyses based on econometric models as well as the series of basic forecasts for domestic and foreign tourism have been produced; the methods adopted and principal results were reported during the XXVIIIth AIEST Congress in Egypt. Subsequently, in 1979 a sampling survey based on the nationwide representation of Polish population has been carried out by the Public Opinion Research Centre, connected with the Polish Broadcasting and Television Committee. Computed primary results of this survey have been analyzed by the Institute of Tourism in Warsaw by a team of scientific workers led by the author of this report. Some main results and conclusions of both studies, which contribute to scientific description of trends and tendencies of Polish tourism and its economic and social limitations, will be briefly presented underneath.
