Paying the price of wage control
Abstract
THE present pay controls must be allowed to run their course until at least next summer. For the Government and the TUC to lose their resolve in the face of continuing price increases would be interpreted by our overseas creditors as an act of unconditional surrender to the inflation enemy. What little substance remained in the £ would then be shredded on exchange markets like a defeated army's battle standard.
