CAT ME Use Doubles Production
Abstract
When the University of California, Santa Cruz was established in 1965, it was decided that the library would have a computer‐produced book catalog. Thus, we have always had machine‐readable records for all library materials. Originally, records for the catalog were all keyed locally; since the MARC II format had not yet been established, the early records were not tagged to that standard. Now MELVYL, the online union catalog of the University of California, is our primary catalog. Each record we produce on the OCLC system is entered into that catalog by tapeload.
