Abstract

A gloriously sunny August day set the natural beauty of the Limburg countryside off to perfection during Circuit World's brief journey through this area to visit Print Service BV in the small town of Echt near Roermond. Tree‐lined roads, fertile farming land, fields of maize and the remnants of the season's asparagus crop characterised the landscape on the short drive from the German border after arrival at Dusseldorf airport. Until fairly recently a coal‐mining area, this southernmost strip of Holland extending down to the rolling Ardennes was part of the Roman Empire for four centuries and retains traces of this heritage with a wealth of cultural monuments. Continuing the heritage, over 300 artists have settled here in recent years, creating an intriguing variety of work. Farming and light industry provide the main present‐day occupations in this province in which Echt, centrally situated, is the location of Holland's largest printed circuit board manufacturing company.
