Abstract

Basic research work carried out by the U.S. National Bureau of Standards on the corrosion of metals in soils over a period of 45 years has recently been published in a special report of the Bureau, written and summarised by Melvin Romanoff. This second article is a summary of that section of the report dealing with the results of the Bureau's study of the protection of pipes by various metallic coatings, bituminous coatings, and by the incorporation of alloying metals into the pipe metal itself.
